MMAP Strengths

MMAP is committed to bringing quality mathematics learning with integrated computer resources to schools where it has been sorely lacking. We have seen dramatic evidence of increased engagement among "at-risk" middle schoolers using MMAP units. In addition to the development of new learning environments, MMAP is dedicated to working with middle-school mathematics teachers on learning to teach to the Standards.

Important, Innovative or Unique Strengths:

  • Integrates use of technology in the core curriculum rather than as an add on--establishes a real, curricular rationale for computers in the classroom.

  • Meets national standards but is designed to be adapted to local and state plans.

  • Draws heavily on students’ interests in real world contexts and workplace simulations.

  • Low floor, high ceiling design approach to problem solving is helpful for meeting students at their skill levels and moving them forward.

  • Provides assessments that plunge students into math learning activities.

  • Was developed with teachers in classrooms, paying special attention to real issues, problems and constraints of math learning and classroom life
